These five
adverts are very similar to the advert I will be making, and I will also be using
these adverts to upgrade my work and make it look professional.
Rimmel
London Mascara Advert. This advert consist of various things like flashing
lights, short and fast scenes. The shot that were involved in this advert were
close ups, medium shot, long shots. This advert features Georgia May Jagger a
popular glamour model. the first thing we see in the video is her uncovering her face with a
newspaper, the next scene was of her walking with two male police in modernized police uniform. She swipes the mascara across her face, as the voice over
spoke. In this advert most of the clothing the cast have on are dark clothing. This
correlates with the theme advert because, the aim of this advert is to get
people to but the product because it adds volume to eyelashes. There are a lot
of close ups involved especially when they show the actual product, and scenes
like where he was behind bars. And her make-up is a dark Smokey eye, this could
be because she is represented as a rebel. At the end of the advert it looked
like she was in a crime scene because of the orange taping.
Revlon lash
Potion Mascara advert- this is a makeup advert featuring Emma stone. She wears
a short black glittery dress. At the beginning of the video there is a big
writing that shows "EMMA STONE FOR REVLON", straight after that there
was a medium shot of the lower part of her legs as she walked, on the carpet.
The next thing we see is her do is put on a black stiletto at the same time
looks straight into the camera, the look she has on can be described as the
"sexy/fierce look". The role she plays in the advert can be seen as a
classy. She picks up the mascara from the table and applies it on her lashes.
The application of the lashes was exaggerated and it was made to look like
there is an extra energy to the mascara. We hear the voice call the application
stick a wand over talk about magical powers as she applies it softly. All this
time as she applied the mascara the shots were mostly close up shots.
B
L'Oreal Paris Mascara advert. In this advert the voice over start off by saying
"Mega volume on top Mega on bottom new Miss Manga mascara from L'Oreal". At the beginning of the advert we are told what the product
does. They go further and explain the impact it would make the lashes look
like, upper lashes look amplified, lower lashes look revealed...defined, emphasized This adjectives that have been used are what attracts the audience
to buy the product. Most people buy Mascara to add volume and intensity to
their natural eyelashes, this works because they have given people the answer
they are looking for. There was a wide variety of shots, the shots that were
involved were long shots, close ups and medium shots.
Max factor is another popular cosmetic line in the UK. The reason why i chose this advert is because it appeals well to my target audience. The Max factor mascara
Summary
My survey was about Mascara. The aim of my survey was to know the attribute my target want in a cosmetic product. All the people that filled my questionnaire wear makeup so this proves that my survey is valid, also the target audience have an understanding of what they are filling.
Majority of my target audience started wearing makeup over the age of 10, however 10% of my target filled the 0-10 box we can say they are rather experienced and they know what a good mascara is because they have been wearing it for a while.
The next question was about the type of mascara they’ll wear, there were only two option because there are two types of makeup, Non drugstore and Drugstore. 75% filled Drugstore and 25% filled Non drugstore, this is because most people would rather spend less on mascara.
The next question asked how long they would wear a mascara for, 50% are likely to wear it for 5-6 weeks which was the highest. The lowest was 1-2 weeks which is rare but some people usually misplace their makeup on usual bases so this could be a reason why it would last for that little time. 12.50% people use their makeup for 7-8 weeks which is not an unusually case.
The next question was about how much they are likely to spend on mascara must people worry about the price of cosmetics especially the students and people that have not started working. 50% would spend 6-10 pounds on their mascara which is above average, the lowest was 16-20 and 21-over because none of my target audience are willing to spend that much their mascara.
The next question was what their favorite Drugstore Mascara brand was. The highest was Revlon, Revlon is a drugstore product but is still good quality and popular, so I know my target audience want an inexpensive product with a good quality and name.
The next question was what their favorite Non-drugstore mascara was. 50% like MAC the best, MAC is not the most popular of all the products but is very popular. The media promotes MAC as one of the best cosmetic product so most people go by that. Also a lot of makeup gurus would recommend MAC as it is a good cosmetic line.
This survey has helped me to realize and understand what my target audience want. My target audience are the females of the working class that would not usually spend massively on their cosmetics but also want good quality. The product as to be one that is portable, pretty and noticeable. It has to be portable in order to be able to carry all around, it has to be pretty, so one can feel confident enough to bring out, some people can be forgetful and tend to misplace or forget their belongings, if it is noticeable it would not be as difficult tracing if misplaced.
Focus Group
My focus group was a mixture of both sexes, the reason for this is to be able to get the views of the male sex about makeup and what they think and how attractive they think it looks. the focus group was to help determine the type of target audience that will be watching our advert.
The questions I asked were:
"What are your views on make up?"
''In your opinion what is the use of make up?''
"Do you think make up is used to enhance beauty?"
"Is makeup attractive?"
"Do you have know of anyone that wears makeup?"
"Do you think people rely on make up more than they should"
The first video i showed to the focus group was the Drew Barrymore's Cover girl Lash blast Fusion Mascara Advert. The first question was:
"What do you think went well?"
The second question i asked was :
"What do you think went bad"
the feedback we got was
The second advert i showed to the focus group was L'Oreal Paris Mascara advert.
The first question was:
"What do you think went well?"
The second question was:
"What do you think went bad?"
The feedbacks we got were that some of the adverts needed to concentrate more on the eyelashes of the advert that have been show concentrated more on the long shots and did not really analyse the eyelashes some of the adverts were not good for our advert.
This is the video of the focus group
