assignment 3 task 2 production

Behind a great advert is a great crew, and behind a great crew involves great planning. Before the process of filming one as to make sure filming equipments are intact and ready for use, also one has to make sure that there are spare equipment in case any damage happen to the originally ones being used. Also it is imperative that one creates their story board before hand in order to avoid hiccups during filming.

At the beginning the filming, we signed out the recording equipment at Robert clack lower school, we recorded the date, day time we collected the equipment in a book. (Tripod, camera, tape). During the filming first location we used was the Robert clack upper school. Our first location had good lightning hence we had booked a drama studio with studio lights that was an advantage for filming, however the footage did not come out to match our expectations. We decided to change our setting and move back to the lower school where we could use somewhere with natural lighting that would work better for the filming.

Each member of the crew had their parts, here was one actress whose job was to into the camera and give eye contacts, there was also the voice over person whose job was to, rehearse a of written dialogue and voice it by recording it on the computer. there was also the location caterer who provided us with food and drinks to refresh our system every now and then. My role was to be the director and the camera person, I directed the actor to give eye movement that made the eyelashes noticeable and makes it obvious that we are advertising an eye product. In our story board we had planned out how our footage was going to be filmed, but because we had changed our location we had to skip some of the things we would have loved to do. I also instructed the actor to include head movement to give the audience something else to look at and to make it re interesting to watch rather than just concentrating on the eyes alone. Majority of our footage were close up of the eyes and medium shot of the head. We did not major health and issue as what we were doing did not involve any extreme actions. The only is we had was making sure the mascara was properly sterilized and clean enough for the actor to apply on her lashes.

After filming the footage the next step was the upload it, the editing app we used is final cut express.

·         I uploaded the clip to the computer
·         Organised and labelled clips in bin in order to recognise it.

·         I also used a range of editing tools, like cropping, reverse.

·         The voice over needed to be louder than the background music, therefore the volume of back ground music was faint while the voice dominated but the voice over ended the volume of the music increased.

·         I have imported files needed the background sound.

assignment 3 Task 1- Pre -Production Documentation

Proposal
Prepared by
Toni Ward, Semilore Ogunlowo, Koria Scantlebury, Aminata Sankoh

Media productions will produce a short advert to advertise the effect mascara has. The advert will be aimed at 11-40 year old, our advert will be very informative. The advert will be provide evidence of the effects mascara does to the eyelashes.
The advert will feature on a black wall, it will have many candid shots.  The advert will be advertising a certain type of mascara, the advert will be accompanied by music in the background and also a voice over.
The Advert will feature a young teenager, who is a student at Warren Senior School.  The actress sues mascara on a daily basis therefore they have real interest in the make-up industry. As the actress is in the media product they are willing to be present and act as model in the advert.
We have facts and figures surrounding the make-up industry, on how many people use it on average in a year.
The Voice over won’t be appearing on the screen, while the actress is being filmed. The advert will be produced on a digital camera and will be edited on the Apple Mac computer within on the school premises.

The budget for the advert is yet to be decided but we are looking to range it £10-£50.
Contingency Plan

Contingency Plan
Name: Semilore Ogunlowo
Production: Mascara

Potential problems and how to overcome these problems:

1.     If any of my filming crew is absent due to health, school or personal issues, I will have a standby person to replace them.
2.     If the weather is really poor on the day we plan to do our filming, we will change the date to a week after and check if it is fine by the owners of the locations we will be using.
3.     If the equipment break down due to carelessness or other reasons, we have to borrow a camera. If we do not find one as good as the school one we would have to manage in order to make sure we get our filming done.
4.     If one of our props gets missing, the whole crew must be ready to contribute a token in order to get the costume replaced.
5.     If our location is closed on the day we plan to film we have to choose another day and confirm  the location will be open for use.

Robert Clack Upper School  - The first location for this advert is Robert Clack upper school in the drama studio where we have access to lots of good lightning and is very spacious.

Robert Clack Lower School - The second location for this advert is the media corridor in Robert Clack lower school. It is a narrow space with white background where we have access to natural lighting.

Robert Clack lower school  - The third location for this advert is Robert Clack Lower school Field, the field is very spacious and permits us to do whatever as there are no boundaries, this would be an excellent location for the catwalk.

Health and Safety Issues to note:
·       General public – need to make sure no one trips over the equipments
·       Crew needs to stay together so no one gets lost
·       Make sure there are no sharp objects on the field that could cause injury for the person cat walking
Potential Filming Problems:
·       Lack of electricity supply – will need to use fully charged batteries at all times
·       We cannot use artificial lights in one of our locations so we have to shoot on a day that is very sunny.
·       We need to be sure the drama students do not need to use the studio while filming because this might slow down our filming process.
·       Make sure we film before bell goes to avoid noise from students walking past.

Additional Notes:  (map of area/weather forecast etc.)

Need to make sure everyone is alright with missing out on lunch or break in order to get the filming done as fast as possible.

assignment 2 task 4 - Identifying Potential Problems

Identifying potential problems

We thought about the potential problems that we could have before filming and we also thought about things that could possibly be a problem. The issue we have is that we have used false eyelashes to accentuate the look, however, it could be seen as false advertisement and could make it look like the wrong thing is being advertised.  the reason why we did not see his as a problem at first was because false eyelashes are seen as make up (foundation, powder, lipstick), but  after people reviewed the advert they all testified that it would be a great risk to not include what we have done wrong.

The music within the advert will be taken from a Youtube video after asking for permission from the person who has uploaded it, we know we will not be getting into trouble.
Guidelines from CAP
4.9 - Advertisements must not condone or encourage violence, crime, disorder or anti-social behaviour.
This may also concern the CAP as we are using a bow and arrow within the advertisement. We fire an arrow at the mint in the characters hand; we are not promoting violence in any way as there is no fighting throughout. At the end of the advertisement, we can add a message at the end to say "don't try to re-enact anything you have seen" etc. so that people do not accidentally get hurt copying us.

assignment 2 Task 3 - Research for production:

The following is a list of the equipment that we need to record our advertisement.

Camera - Nikon p500
Cost: free (already acquired)
Records in 1080p (High Definition)

Tripod
Cost: free (already acquired)
Locations
Robert clack lower school and Robert upper school - this place is great to film as there is a lot of land to choose from and it is the exact setting we need. The background in the drama studio in the upper school and corridor in the lower school are appropriate settings to film. The drama studio had nice lighting good enough to film with. The lower school corridor had natural lighting. The only disadvantage is that natural lighting is not reliable so it can be hard to tell when it will be convenient or not to film and the disadvantage of using the drama studies that when there is no electricity it is impossible to film. Also because we are filming in a school environment during break and lunch time things could get messy and people could run in the camera or run across the film scene.

Actors
For this advertisement, we will be the starring in it ourselves as we know what we want to do. We will ask friends who will be more than happy to also star alongside us in the advertisement, which means that we will not have to spend money or time on paying or looking for actors. A downside to this, though, is that some friends may waste time messing around although we know we will stick to our schedule and complete this advertisement on time.

Costumes
As our characters are going to be dressing up as their normal selves we would really need to buy much .however we would have to buy the actor’s costume and the mascara we are trying to advertise which could be purchased in a shop or shop online. The costumes will cost around £5 - £20.

Props
We need very minimal props for this advertisement, so we do not need to spend much money as we already have most items; we need a mascara which we would be buying.

Filming
The filming process will take no more than 3 days to do in total, if that. As we have media 3 times a week so we approximately film in a week. We can film in around 2 days and then we have a spare day if we need to record anything extra. I am confident, though, that we will record it within 2 days. The only downside to recording for 3 days is that we will have to travel back form forth from lower to upper school which can be very time consuming and rather tiring.

assignment 2 task 2 Ideas Generation done

 Ideas Generation

These two ideas are the potential ideas for my advert. Both quite similar as they are stand alone. however the difference between both is that the second idea is more relaxed, the first idea as a more                                                 sexy and glamorous feel to it.

For my group and I came up with two story boards. The first board was the one we ended up using. It was a stand alone. Due to the fact that it had more relations to the product we were trying to advertise, also the advert was easier to produce. The advert is aimed at females of all age group, mascara is an essential make up product and is rather necessary for a nice everyday look .The advert involved more close ups and medium shot because the aim was to more on the eyelashes and get a close view on the eyelashes. The idea was the open the advert with the eyelashes being the first scene the advantage of this to get the audience to fall love with the eyelashes before the voice over even started. My plan was to the advert with the medium shot of her flicking her hair and also adding a reverse motion of her flicking her hair.

For the second storyboard, as well as the first one this was a stand alone as well. The advert is aimed at females of all age group, mascara is an essential make up product and is rather necessary for a nice everyday look . The aim was to include long shots and few medium shots to it, but considering that the advert was about a mascara it would not be appropriate to not include close ups in an advert that is supposed to concentrate on eyelashes. We wanted to include lots body movement and incorporate it with the eyelashes. The type of music that was planned to be used was a sound with   dramatic feel to it, we did not really need to involve a music with words to distract the audience, what we needed was just a sound to make it more dramatic.
